August 2017 Francesco Coggiola, Alda Pagliano and Carlo Torino in Uganda
Francesco Coggiola has been back for the 14th time in Uganda maintaining his commitment to offering his gynecologist and surgeon expertese free of charge in a country where care for women is fundamental and often scarce. It turns out that women go expressely in the months of August and January to be operated by him, in fact, when he is not there, no one is able to do his job. This year he has performed 40 operations in less than 30 days! And this time he went with Alda Pagliano, his longtime friend, full of joy and enthusiasm and Carlo Torino.
During their stay, they attended the celebrations for 50 years of Aboke's St. Mary's College in the presence of the bishop of Lira Giuseppe Franzelli.
This school was up to the honor of the chronicles because at 2 AM on October 10, 1996 a Lord Resistance Army, LRA, guerrillas commando which seized thousands of children as children soldiers or as brides-girls for the commanders, raids and kidnaps 139 girls between the ages of twelve and sixteen. Sister Rachele Fassera, a Comboni missionary and vicar of the school, together with a young teacher, goes on the trail of guerrillas, reaches them in the forest and begs the commander to release the girls. The unthinkable happens: 109 of them are released and return home with the religious, the other, the older ones, are held back. The parents of those prisoners do not give up:the Concerned Parents Association is born, which is committed to the release of all children kidnapped by the LRA and that over the years will lead to the liberation and recovery of many children soldiers.
